Paddy Johnston Colorectal Cancer Research Award Travel Bursary

The 2022 All Ireland Colorectal Cancer Conference committee is pleased to announce the provision of the Paddy Johnston Colorectal Cancer Research Award Travel Bursary.

This bursary is open to non-Consultant hospital doctors with a special interest in Colorectal Oncology. Candidates are invited to submit an abstract (maximum 500 words) on a case report, audit or original work. Abstracts must relate to work completed while in full-time clinical employment in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Abstracts cannot relate to work done during a research fellowship, or in support of a research degree.

Successful candidates will present the abstract at the All Ireland Colorectal Cancer Conference in Dublin on Friday 14th October. The presenter judged best at the meeting will receive a bursary to further facilitate an educational opportunity approved by the All Ireland Colorectal Cancer Conference committee.

Professor Paddy Johnston was recognised as a leading international expert in cancer research and a shaper of public policy in the fight against cancer. He was instrumental in setting up the All Ireland Cancer Consortium, bringing together official representatives from both the Republic and Northern Ireland and the USA to reduce cancer incidence and mortality. His main research activity focused on understanding drug resistance in Gastro-intestinal Cancers. We hope that this annual Research Award will serve as an enduring legacy of the tireless work and dedication which Paddy brought to his medical career.

Deadline for submissions is Friday 23rd September 2022 and should be emailed to kelly@globalteamwork.ie
